Lakewood Ranch - Sarasota Elks #2855
The Ranch Hands… The Ranch Hands are our event coordinators for the Lodge and also our decorating committee!! They plan activities and events, they cook, they serve, and they are amazing!!
Drug Awareness Program… Our Drug Awareness program is the largest volunteer drug awareness program in the United States. The Elks are committed to eliminating the use and abuse of illegal drugs by all members of society and believe that in order to ensure a bright future for our country, it is essential that our children be raised in a drug-free environment.
The Veterans Committee… This group meets monthly and discusses ways to help our veterans in our community. The Veterans Committee organizes events such as a Paws For Patriots for the benefit of our local Southeastern Guide Dogs.
The Veterans Committee also holds free lunches for our local Veterans. The committee is involved with several yearly outings in our communities and they also bring much needed items to the Veterans at Bay Pines Veterans Medical Center in St. Petersburg throughout the year. The Veterans Committee also sponsors MOTS (Manasota Operation Troop Support.). There is a packing party once a month where they pack boxes of goodies to send to troops deployed overseas. Our Veterans Committee is outstanding in their continued work for our Veterans.
Hoop Shoot Program… A Free Throw Program for Youth Ages 8-13. The Hoop Shoot is free to all participants and provides our youth an opportunity to compete, connect and succeed. The Local winners can advance to State, Regional and National levels!
Elks Feeding Empty Little Tummies (EFELT)… In Manatee County, there are over 2,300 homeless children ages 5 to 12, living in shelters, motels and the backs of cars. While these kids are eligible to receive reduced cost or free breakfast/lunch at school, many do not have food over the weekend and therefore go hungry. EFELT is a community project of Elks providing weekend meals to children are homeless or living in food-deprived homes. EFELT’s objective is to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry or faces a weekend without any food.
